About Feedporter

RSS solved a real problem: read what you choose, in the order you choose, without an algorithm in between. The readers built on top of it have drifted from that idea. The two largest now ask for an account before you can read a single article, and put search, filtering and duplicate detection behind a subscription.

Feedporter is built local-first. Follow up to 250 feeds in sections you define, read them in one view, with complete search and keyword filtering. Standard accounts update hourly; Priority memberships unlock 15-minute polling for your custom feeds and an hourly email digest of matched tracked keywords.

The trade-offs, stated plainly

250 feeds, and a ceiling

250 is more than most people follow, and the cap counts every feed — catalog collections and your own sources alike. Articles are kept in your own browser, so a reader near the ceiling takes longer to refresh than one with a few dozen. If you genuinely track more sources than that, Inoreader's paid tier is the better tool and it is worth its price.

Sync is opt-in, not automatic

Reading without an account never syncs — that trade still stands by default. An optional account syncs your feeds, sections and read marks across devices if you want that, and the privacy page lists everything it stores; otherwise export and import are one click each.

No AI summaries

Both competitors offer them; they cost real money per article to generate. Rather than charge for it or do it badly, Feedporter gives you deterministic mute and boost rules, which are more predictable anyway.

How it is built

The marketing pages are static HTML with effectively no JavaScript. The reader is a single small script — no framework runtime — talking to a feed proxy that handles RSS 2.0, Atom, RDF and JSON Feed. Articles cache in your browser, so the reader opens instantly and works offline.

The directory holds 146 feeds across 22 categories, and every one of them was actually fetched and parsed before it shipped. Dead links were dropped rather than listed.
